Telecom Times

About Telecom Times

Telecom Times is an independent guide to phones and internet in Australia. We publish plain-language guides in three areas: home internet, including NBN connection types, speeds, choosing a plan and testing your speed; mobile phones, including choosing a plan, coverage, keeping your number and the 3G switch-off; and your rights, including the Critical Information Summary, complaints and the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman, scams and leaving a contract early. Our free speed log helps you record and compare speed tests.

Why we exist

This web address once hosted an Australian telco news site, which has since lapsed. There is no shortage of plan comparisons and telco advertising. What people often lack is a clear, independent explanation of how phone and internet services work and what their rights are. That's the gap we want to fill.

How we work

We write every guide in our own words. For facts about rules, networks and consumer protections, we rely on official sources such as the ACMA, the ACCC, the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman, Scamwatch and nbn co, and we list our sources on each page. We never invent statistics, prices, quotes or testimonials, and we don't rank providers or publish plan prices.

Independence

Telecom Times (telecomtimes.com.au) is an independent information site. We are not a telco, NBN provider, comparison service, regulator or ombudsman, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by any company, agency or organisation named on this site, any previous operator of this domain, or any business with a similar name.

General information only

Plans, network details and telco rules change over time. Our guides are general information, not legal, financial or technical advice. Check the details with your provider and the relevant agency.
